How to apply

Follow these steps to apply for Innovative Projects Grants funding.


Important dates

May 12, 2017: application period opens

May 23, 2017: email questions for the Applicants’ meeting deadline

May 30, 2017, 1:30-3:00 pm MDT: applicants’ meeting

June 30, 2017, at 4:30 pm MDT: application period closes

Step 1. Check your eligibility

Review the eligibility criteria to determine if you qualify for this grant.

Step 3. Download application form and templates

Download and save to your computer:

  1. Innovative Language Projects Grant Application Form (MS Word)
  2. Innovative Language Projects – Submission Checklist (MS Word)
  3. Project Description Template (MS Word)
  4. Project Summary Template (MS Word)
  5. Project Budget Template (Excel)

Step 4. Complete your application

Note: Only complete applications will be considered. This includes the following hard copy and electronic documents:

In hard copy

  1. Submission Checklist (1 copy)
  2. Grant Application Form (1 signed original and 5 copies)
    • fill out form on your computer
    • print out, validate and sign the form
  3. Project Proposal (6 unbound copies). The proposal should include:
    • 3.1 Project Description (see Grant Guidelines for detailed instructions)
    • 3.2 Project Summary
      • fill in the template
      • print out to send with your application
    • 3.3 Project Budget
      • adjust the Excel workbook template to reflect your project details
      • print out the Budget to send with your application
      • sign hard copy of Budget:
        • initial each page
        • sign the last page
  4. Organizational Documents (1 copy of each)
    1. organizational chart
    2. current list of Board of Directors, if applicable
    3. business plan or strategic plan approved by Board or equivalent
    4. organization mission and goals, and general information on programs and services (e.g., brochures)
    5. financial statement
    6. signature samples of those who have signing authority
    7. copy of policy or statement describing your organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
    8. statement outlining your organization’s experience (minimum 2 years) providing ESL OR a letter of commitment from the partnering organization describing their ESL experience
    9. Certificate of Insurance for general liability
    10. one letter of reference in support of the applicant
    11. if there’s a partner organization, a signed letter of commitment

    Step 5. Send in application

    Mail, courier or drop off your completed application package to:

    Note: Late or faxed submissions will not be accepted.

    Step 6. After you apply

    Review process
    Your application will be screened for eligibility and completeness, then reviewed:

    • we may contact you for additional information or documents
    • if it passes initial screening, a committee will review your application
    • program staff will make funding decisions based on the recommendations from the committee, and on funding availability
    • we will contact you with the results:
      • if your application is approved, you’ll be notified by email
      • if your application is not approved, you’ll be notified by mail

    Grant conditions
    Once your application is approved, your organization enters into a grant agreement with the Alberta government.

    Grant recipients are required to:

    • demonstrate sound financial and personnel management
    • submit complete, timely, and accurate reports as requested
    • respond to further information requests regarding the project when needed
    • assist department staff, as requested, with verification of contract compliance through file audits or client follow-up
    • comply with the terms and conditions of the grant agreement
