Section 92 Preventing damage

(1) If a boom is fitted on a mobile crane or boom truck and the crane or truck may overturn or flip backwards because of the return movement of the boom, an employer must ensure that

(a) positive boom stops are installed in the crane or truck in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications, and

(b) a boom stop limit device is installed to prevent the boom from being drawn back beyond a pre-determined safe boom angle.

(2) If a jib is attached to the boom of a mobile crane or boom truck, an employer must ensure that a jib stop device is installed in the crane or truck to prevent the jib from being drawn back over the boom.

(3) An employer must ensure that procedures are developed for blocking to prevent the collapse or upset of any part of a derrick, mast or boom during the installation, removal or replacement of a derrick or the mast or boom section of a mobile crane or boom truck.
