Section 771 Catheads

Catheads are recognized as a potential safety hazard. Many have been removed from rigs on a voluntary basis. Subject to the conditions listed in subsection 771(4), the use of a rope-operated friction cathead is no longer permitted as of January 1, 2005. Small air operated hoists, also known as “tuggers”, are an acceptable alternative.
