Allen Ponak is a full time arbitrator with offices in Calgary and Saskatoon. He has been arbitrating for more than 30 years and has been appointed to thousands of cases. He is a listed arbitrator in national and regional collective agreements including Canada Post Corporation and Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Calgary Cooperative Limited and Union of Calgary Coop Employees, Finning Inc. and International Association of Machinists, Government of the Northwest Territories and Public Service Alliance of Canada, and McNally Robinson and United Food and Commercial Workers.

Until 2006, Allen was a professor of industrial relations at the University of Calgary and the co-author of a leading textbook on union-management relations. In 2006, his documentary “Beyond Collision: High Integrity Labour Relations” won the Silver Screen Award at the Los Angeles International Film and Video Festival. From 2011 to 2015, Allen was a special lecturer in the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan.

Allen is president of the National Academy of Arbitrators (2015-16), the leading North American association of labour arbitrators, and the 2015 recipient of the Bora Laskin Award for outstanding contributions to labour law. He received the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005. Allen completed his education at McGill, Michigan State University, and the University of Wisconsin.
