Biography - J. Leslie Wallace

Les Wallace is a labour arbitrator based in Edmonton. He has been in private arbitration practice since 2008, has been appointed in just over 400 disputes, and has authored over 60 awards in that time. He is active in the Alberta and federal jurisdictions. He is on the labour arbitration rosters for Alberta Mediation Services and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

Prior to entering arbitration practice, Les was a full-time Vice-Chair of the Alberta Labour Relations Board from 1996 to 2008. In that capacity he authored over 300 decisions in all areas of that Board’s mandate. Before that he served as the LRB’s in-house Legal Counsel from 1993 to 1996, and as joint counsel to the LRB and the Alberta Human Rights Commission from 1988 to 1993.

Les also holds appointments as a member of the Board of Reference under the Alberta School Act with jurisdiction over teacher terminations and suspensions; and as Co-Chair of the Appeals Panel for the Jurisdictional Assignment Plan of the Alberta Construction Industry.

Les resides in Edmonton. He is married with three adult children. In his spare time he travels, hikes, cooks, reads history and literature and plays in an amateur rock and roll band.
