Radiation Legislation

Radiation Legislation

Alberta’s radiation laws protect workers who may be exposed to sources of radiation while working with certain types of radiation-emitting equipment.

The Radiation Protection Act and Regulation apply to workers who install, operate or service x-ray equipment and high powered lasers.

Employers in turn are required to develop and implement safe work practices and procedures for workers who work with this equipment. Owners of designated types of radiation equipment are required to have it inspected and registered. Learn about the types of equipment that need to be registered, and how to register your equipment.

The radiation legislation also specifies maximum exposure limits for radiation, and the need to have radiation workers monitor their personal exposure to ionizing radiation.
